Winter Care for your Dwarf Jade

Indoor Care, Light & Humidity

General Care

Dwarf Jades should be kept indoors when the overnight temperature outside is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep an eye on the weather as the Summer winds down so your tree isn’t suddenly caught outside during cold temperatures.

During the winter months, it is important to monitor the moisture level of the soil in your bonsai pot very closely. during the Winter months do best when they are watered every 2-3 days. Follow the watering guidelines in our watering article for the best results.

Leaf Drop

Many Dwarf Jades drop or lose leaves as the Winter arrives. This is due to a change in the amount of available light during these cold months. Don't be alarmed, and continue to follow the watering and light guidelines through this process. Trust the process, monitor the moisture of your soil closely, provide bright light, and your leaves will come around.

Light

The other important factor during the Winter is light! With shorter days and less sunlight available, it is an excellent idea to purchase a small LED grow light for your Dwarf Jade. Dwarf Jades can benefit from up to 18 hours of light exposure, so they should be placed in the brightest spot in your home.

Beware!

Beware of blowing air from heating systems and drafty windows. Cold air from a drafty window can impede or hurt the plant, and hot blowing air can dry the soil and foliage more rapidly. Drier conditions indoors can also be aided by occasionally misting the tree with a fine water sprayer.
